WHAT IS CRYSTALENS?
Crystalens is an advanced artificial lens implant that is used to treat cataracts. Dr. William Boothe, one of the most skilled ophthalmologists, offers the Crystalens procedure to his patients who are interested in treating their cataracts.

A cataract is an eye condition that is caused by the clouding of the eye’s natural crystalline lens. This impairs vision clarity and makes it difficult to read road signs or even text messages on a mobile phone. It may ultimately lead to total blindness if a patient does not seek timely treatment. The most effective treatment for cataracts is to undergo cataract surgery. During cataract surgery, the damaged lens is removed and replaced by an artificial intraocular lens. There are many types of intraocular lenses (IOL), and each type is best suited for a particular eye condition. Crystalens is one of the best suited IOLs for patients suffering from cataracts.

Pre-Surgical Requirements
Before a patient undergoes cataract surgery, he or she needs to see a qualified practitioner for assistance in choosing the most appropriate IOL for their condition. Dr. Boothe is an excellent choice because he has great knowledge and experience with intraocular lenses, in particular Crystalens. He is able to perform this surgery with great skill, provides excellent results, and gives his patients the best care before and after surgery.

Crystalens Implantation Procedure
Implantation of the Crystalens during cataract surgery is performed in the same manner as any standard cataract surgery. First, the surgeon will place eye-numbing drops in the eye. Then, a micro incision will be made at the edge of the cornea and the affected eye lens will be removed by gently washing it away. Crystalens will then be implanted to replace the removed natural lens. Most patients are required to come into Dr. Boothe’s office for a follow up visit the next day.

OTHER USES OF CRYSTALENS
Crystalens can also be used to treat presbyopia, an eye condition caused by the hardening of the eye’s natural lens, which results in difficulty in focusing on objects in the near and intermediate field of vision. Symptoms are usually experienced after the age of 40 and are often found in patients with cataracts.
ADVANTAGES OF CRYSTALENS OVER OTHER INTRAOCULAR LENSES.

Normal cataract surgery with other intraocular lenses only resolves the blurring caused by cataracts, but most patients must continue to wear prescription eye glasses in order to see clearly. With Crystalens, most patients do not need to wear eye glasses after the surgery, as Crystalens gives patients a more natural range of vision. It also improves the brightness of colors and the clarity of vision. Another benefit is that the recovery period for this surgery is remarkably short and most patients are able to resume normal daily activities almost immediately after the surgery.

If you are suffering from cataracts and/or presbyopia, please contact Dr. William Boothe so you can learn more about your options. You don’t need to continue to live in a blur – with a Crystalens implantation, Dr. Boothe can help you see more clearly than you have in years.

Our eyes are a unique part of our body. Each eye has a specific structure and is very different from the other. According to Dr. William Boothe, because our eyes are so unique, it is very important to get laser eye correction treatment customized specifically to each. In this way, you can be confident that you obtain the best possible result.

Lasik surgery is a procedure that corrects refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The Wavefront Mapping system was developed as an advanced guiding system for Lasik surgery. It uses 3D images that allow a more accurate depiction of the contours of your eyes. The system first identifies the type of error, and then determines precisely where on the eye the laser should cut depending on high or low order abberations. Finally, the system determines the present shape condition and what shape it should be after the procedure. With all this information, the eye surgery will be performed under the guidance of a computer.

The Wavefront Mapping system reduces the possibility of future side effects, including blurry vision, halos, difficulty driving, or poor night vision. If you are looking for safe and effective laser eye correction procedure, you should consider Wavefront technology.

Advantages of the Wavefront Mapping system include:

• Ability to achieve 20/20 or better vision for the patient
• Reduced capability to lose visual quality and contrast sensitivity
• Reduced capability of night eyesight disturbances and glare

Boothe Eye Care Center uses two Wavefront systems:
• The VISX Wavescan
• Alcon’s LadarWave

We all know that our eyes are important to us in our every day lives. If you would like more information about this and other laser correction technologies, please call our offices and schedule your individual consultation with Dr. William Boothe.

Most patients who suffer from refractive errors would like to correct their vision as precisely as possible. Many patients feel conflicted about whether to undergo LASIK procedure or to continue wearing contact lenses as a corrective measure. For many, LASIK surgery is actually a better alternative to contact lenses or eye glasses. People began wearing contact lenses because it helped them have a more active, unhindered life. Even today, many people believe that contact lenses are better than LASIK because wearing contact lenses does not involve undergoing a surgical procedure; however, Dr. William Boothe recommends LASIK as a safer alternative and better choice in comparison to contact lenses.

Contact lenses have many advantages when compared to eye glasses. By wearing contact lenses, the face’s physical appearance does not change. Since there is no hindrance from eyeglass frames, contact lenses provide a full field of vision. According to studies, however, the risks associated with contact lens use are much higher than the risks associated with LASIK eye surgery. Contact lenses are a foreign body placed inside the eyes, which increases the risk of infection and complication. Thus, wearers of contact lenses suffer from a higher rate of infection than LASIK patients. Contact lens users are prone to neovascularization, corneal ulcers, and other similar eye conditions.

There are complications associated with the LASIK procedure, but most of them are minor and can be corrected. According to research studies, the risk of eye infection from contact lens use is one in 2,000, whereas with LASIK only one out of 10,000 patients is at risk. Furthermore, the number of complications related to LASIK eye procedure is constantly diminishing with the advancement of technologies. The bladeless procedure and new generation microkeratomes are providing a higher level of accuracy and improved safety to patients. CustomVue LASIK, for example, is a new technology that provides better vision and reduces night time vision problems.

LASIK procedure may result in dry eyes, but it will disappear within 3 to 6 months. At the same time, contact lens users also experience dry eyes which can gradually result in the intolerance of contact lenses. This intolerance can lead to eye irritation and reduce the wearing time of contact lenses. The LASIK procedure can be performed at an average price of $2,200 for each eye. Contact lens users spend more than $10,000 on contact lens use, including the cost of lenses, resolving associated complications, and attending regular check-ups to maintain a valid prescription.

Dr. William Boothe says that LASIK surgical procedure is a long term investment, but it saves money, time, and provides more freedom and safety to the individual. Dependable, lasting vision can be achieved with the help of LASIK. By using contact lens, there will always be the risk of a lens popping out of the eye, thus causing vision impairment at any moment. Contact lenses also require daily cleaning, whereas LASIK provides a long term, hassle-free solution. Taking these factors into consideration, it is easy to see why the LASIK surgical procedure is a superior solution to contact lens use. Dr. Boothe is a skilled surgeon who can complete the LASIK procedure precisely and efficiently.
