Myopia or nearsightedness is one of the most common types of refractive errors, affecting nearly one third of the world’s population. Nearsighted people have difficulty seeing objects at a distance, but are able to see closer objects well. For example, they do not have a problem reading a book or sewing. Some symptoms of myopia are headaches or tension in the eyes while driving or examining distant objects.

It is important to notice the first signs of myopia. Over straining your eye muscles may contribute to the progression of myopia. If treated early by special exercises and training of the internal muscles of the eye can restore vision in some cases.

Dr. William Boothe uses modern technologies that provide a wide spectrum of treatment for myopia. Depending on the type of myopia, its extent, and progression over time Dr. Boothe can choose a suitable treatment strategy specifically for you. Myopia can be corrected with conservative methods such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, refractive therapy (orthokeratology), surgery, refractive surgery such as laser vision correction, implantation of phakic lenses, or replacing the lens.

Progressive myopia is a contraindication for the laser vision correction procedure but can be corrected by scleroplasty or enhance eye exercises. If you have progressive myopia Dr. Boothe can recommend a strengthening course of laser coagulation of the retina. After that, you will be a good candidate for laser eye surgery.
Laser Vision Correction

Lasik, also known as refractive surgery, is a laser procedure that can reduce or even eliminate your need for eyeglasses or contact lenses. There are several methods of vision correction that are actively used throughout the world.

The most famous and best-proven method is Lasik. This technique has been used in our clinic for over 20 years and has been repeatedly tested and refined.
Lasik is the removal technology of the corneal flap that is predetermined by a computer-controlled excimer laser. Lasik is one of the most popular procedures, along with other operations of refractive surgery. Last year Lasik operations was preferred by more than 10,000 patients.

Laser eye surgery takes less than ten minutes and is conducted with the help of a local anesthetic in the form of eye drops. This method is painless and requires minimal effort in terms of preoperative and postoperative care. Patients should refrain from wearing contact lenses and use of cosmetics before the procedure. It is also recommended to keep your eyes closed for several hours after surgery to ensure optimal healing. Most often wearing bandages are not required. The patient can return to their daily routines and activities soon after the procedure.

Of course, regular follow up consultations with Dr. Boothe are necessary to maintain the healing process. The risk of complications from this procedure is minimal, but Dr. Boothe will explain in detail your course of operation, advantages and disadvantages, and possible risks of complications during the consultation.

Currently, there are several methods of refractive surgery, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. What is common to all methods is the need to change the curvature of the cornea by use of an excimer laser. When a patient suffers from myopia, the central parts of the cornea is evaporated, which leads to some flattening. According to the laws of optics, a lens that has a flatter curvature of the surface is weaker when bending light rays. Thus, changes in the corneal curvature moves the focus onto the retina and therefore, a significant increase of visual acuity without eyeglasses or contact lenses.

With hyperopia, by contrast, peripheral parts of the cornea are evaporated, and better vision is achieved by strengthening of the curvature of the central optical zone. The cornea refracts more rays entering the eye, and the focus moves to the retina.

IntraLasik & Lasik
At the Boothe EyeCare & Laser Center many different kinds of the laser vision correction procedures are performed. The most famous laser procedure is IntraLasik surgery.
IntraLasik has a fundamental difference from other methods of laser vision correction. This is the creation of the corneal flap by the laser, not a mechanical microkeratome. At the same time IntraLasik can be combined with any excimer laser technology designed for Lasik, including the standard ablation, ablation on the basis of the Wavefront, and aspheric ablation.

Patients who have completed IntraLasik operations at Boothe Eye Care Center reported the benefits of using a Femtosecond laser. According to many patients, IntraLasik provides more accurate thickness, shape, and contour of the flap throughout the slice. This technology allows Dr. Boothe to create a flap of any size and arrange the “leg” of the flap in any meridian.

However, the main practical advantage of IntraLasik eye surgery is the possibility of forming a thinner corneal flap in comparison with a mechanical microkeratome. It is very important for patients with high myopia and thin corneas to carry out excimer laser vision correction.

In addition, the Femtosecond laser is used for different types of lamellar and penetrating keratoplasty.

WHAT IS CRYSTALENS?
Crystalens is an advanced artificial lens implant that is used to treat cataracts. Dr. William Boothe, one of the most skilled ophthalmologists, offers the Crystalens procedure to his patients who are interested in treating their cataracts.

A cataract is an eye condition that is caused by the clouding of the eye’s natural crystalline lens. This impairs vision clarity and makes it difficult to read road signs or even text messages on a mobile phone. It may ultimately lead to total blindness if a patient does not seek timely treatment. The most effective treatment for cataracts is to undergo cataract surgery. During cataract surgery, the damaged lens is removed and replaced by an artificial intraocular lens. There are many types of intraocular lenses (IOL), and each type is best suited for a particular eye condition. Crystalens is one of the best suited IOLs for patients suffering from cataracts.

Pre-Surgical Requirements
Before a patient undergoes cataract surgery, he or she needs to see a qualified practitioner for assistance in choosing the most appropriate IOL for their condition. Dr. Boothe is an excellent choice because he has great knowledge and experience with intraocular lenses, in particular Crystalens. He is able to perform this surgery with great skill, provides excellent results, and gives his patients the best care before and after surgery.

Crystalens Implantation Procedure
Implantation of the Crystalens during cataract surgery is performed in the same manner as any standard cataract surgery. First, the surgeon will place eye-numbing drops in the eye. Then, a micro incision will be made at the edge of the cornea and the affected eye lens will be removed by gently washing it away. Crystalens will then be implanted to replace the removed natural lens. Most patients are required to come into Dr. Boothe’s office for a follow up visit the next day.

OTHER USES OF CRYSTALENS
Crystalens can also be used to treat presbyopia, an eye condition caused by the hardening of the eye’s natural lens, which results in difficulty in focusing on objects in the near and intermediate field of vision. Symptoms are usually experienced after the age of 40 and are often found in patients with cataracts.
ADVANTAGES OF CRYSTALENS OVER OTHER INTRAOCULAR LENSES.

Normal cataract surgery with other intraocular lenses only resolves the blurring caused by cataracts, but most patients must continue to wear prescription eye glasses in order to see clearly. With Crystalens, most patients do not need to wear eye glasses after the surgery, as Crystalens gives patients a more natural range of vision. It also improves the brightness of colors and the clarity of vision. Another benefit is that the recovery period for this surgery is remarkably short and most patients are able to resume normal daily activities almost immediately after the surgery.

If you are suffering from cataracts and/or presbyopia, please contact Dr. William Boothe so you can learn more about your options. You don’t need to continue to live in a blur – with a Crystalens implantation, Dr. Boothe can help you see more clearly than you have in years.

Our eyes are a unique part of our body. Each eye has a specific structure and is very different from the other. According to Dr. William Boothe, because our eyes are so unique, it is very important to get laser eye correction treatment customized specifically to each. In this way, you can be confident that you obtain the best possible result.

Lasik surgery is a procedure that corrects refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The Wavefront Mapping system was developed as an advanced guiding system for Lasik surgery. It uses 3D images that allow a more accurate depiction of the contours of your eyes. The system first identifies the type of error, and then determines precisely where on the eye the laser should cut depending on high or low order abberations. Finally, the system determines the present shape condition and what shape it should be after the procedure. With all this information, the eye surgery will be performed under the guidance of a computer.

The Wavefront Mapping system reduces the possibility of future side effects, including blurry vision, halos, difficulty driving, or poor night vision. If you are looking for safe and effective laser eye correction procedure, you should consider Wavefront technology.

Advantages of the Wavefront Mapping system include:

• Ability to achieve 20/20 or better vision for the patient
• Reduced capability to lose visual quality and contrast sensitivity
• Reduced capability of night eyesight disturbances and glare

Boothe Eye Care Center uses two Wavefront systems:
• The VISX Wavescan
• Alcon’s LadarWave

We all know that our eyes are important to us in our every day lives. If you would like more information about this and other laser correction technologies, please call our offices and schedule your individual consultation with Dr. William Boothe.

What is cataract and what causes it?

Cataract is a condition in which the natural lens becomes gradually opaque. Usually, it is the result of the normal aging process. But cataract can be also caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation, inflammation of eye, certain medicines or diabetes mellitus. In very rare cases, congenital cataract occur in infants. Congenital cataract are caused when the mother suffered from chickenpox, German measles or other infectious diseases during the time of pregnancy.

What are main the symptoms of cataract?

The common symptoms of cataract are:

1. Difficulty in night driving because of glares from lights.
2. Severe glare from sun or lamps.
3. Vision becomes foggy, cloudy or fuzzy.
4. Double vision.
5. Frequent changes in the prescription of eyeglasses.
6. Vision problems that hinder daily activities.
7. Second sight or near vision will be improved temporarily in people with farsightedness.

What are the different types of cataract?

Nuclear cataract, cortical cataract and posterior sub-capsular cataract are the three common types of cataract.

Is it possible to prevent cataract?

No. It is difficult to prevent cataract as the development of cataract is the part of natural aging process. Dr. William Boothe recommends to take some precaution measures such as wearing protective eye glasses, avoid eye injury, avoid smoking, and regular check up for vision changes.

Is cataract painful?

No. Cataract does not cause any pain, redness, infection. As it develops, it may become uncomfortable.

What are the possible treatments for the cataract?

The major treatment for the cataract is cataract surgery. In advanced center such as Dr. Boothe’s, the natural lens of the eye is removed in a typical cataract surgery and is replaced by an artificial intraocular lens. The intraocular lens is made up of acrylic, plastic or silicone. During early stages of cataract, stronger eyeglasses can provide relief from the symptoms of cataract. But to cure cataract, the only treatment is the surgical procedure.

Explain the procedure of cataract removal.

Dr. William Boothe will create an incision in the eye to remove the natural lens using LASIK procedure. The cataract will be broken into tiny pieces and suctioned out of the eye. In place of the natural lens, Dr. Boothe will insert an intraocular lens. Usually, the posterior membrane of the natural lens will not be removed. In some instances, the surgeon will do an intracapsular extraction in which both the membrane and the lens are removed from the eye to avoid the membrane becoming cloudy. If the remaining natural lens became opaque, then the condition is known as a secondary cataract and can be addressed as well.

How long does it take to complete the cataract surgery?

Cataract surgery will take only 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The patient has to spend only some hours in Dr. Boothe’s center, and most probably, the patient will be able to leave the center on the same day of the surgery.

Is it possible to restore the normal eye vision after the cataract surgery?

Cataract surgery will help the patient to experience improved vision. The complications of cataract surgery are minor in patients who had undergone phacoemulsification or extracapsular surgery because both surgeries will not remove the eye capsule.

What are the complications of cataract surgery?

Although complications are not common, cataract surgery has a risk profile that is similar to other surgeries. In a small amount of cases, patients may experience bleeding, swelling, infection and pain after the surgery. Dr. Boothe will prescribe some medication to reduce the side effects of the surgery. You will be provided with post-op instructions and will be asked to immediately contact the office in case of any unexpected complication.

What is the recovery time for cataract surgery?

The recovery time for cataract surgery is about six weeks. Most of the patients experience discomfort or pain after the surgery, but it gradually disappears a day or two after the cataract surgery. Dr. Boothe will recommend patients to use special eye drops and pills for better healing and pressure regulation in the eye. During the recovery time, patients should use eye shields or sunglasses to protect the eyes.

It has been three weeks after my IntraLasik surgery and I see better than I have ever seen before. My experience with Dr. Boothe and his center has been amazing! From counselors to doctors I have met really nice and open minded persons. So far I received good results. My last eye exam with Dr. Boothe was excellent and he says that there is a good chance I’ll have perfect vision. Now my friend that has some eyesight problems also went (I recommended him) to a free consultation with Dr. Boothe. My next follow up visit is supposed to be my last one, and I am thrilled that I decided to do this surgery.

If you sometime dreamed about life without eyeglasses I adamantly recommend to visit Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center. This place was created for giving to people hope, happiness and perfect vision. I had a good experience when I had my vision treatment at this center. I saw marvelous staff, personally attentive and professional. The doctors & assistants made me comfortable when I stayed at Boothe Laser center.

I looked for a good surgeon to do my laser surgery and restore my vision to be a 100%. Furthermore, I wanted to be treated at a place where I would feel comfortable. When I walked in the first time, the receptionist was very polite and found a counselor who matched my personality and took me through the different consultation stages.

I liked the good atmosphere and the relatively small number of people who were taking care of me. I quickly underwent eye exams and then met Dr. Boothe. He explained my eye condition, showed me a picture of the cornea’s surface and offered that for a few weeks I will use eye drops to ready the cornea and then come back to the center for surgery. Dr. Boothe made time for me & answered my questions about the IntraLasik procedure.

The Intralasik procedure was very quick and easy. Yes, I felt a little discomfort but it was not really pain, more like pressure from the laser. Every time Dr. Boothe used the laser I thought about my goal to improve my vision and walk without eyeglasses and contact lenses. Yet, Dr. Boothe warned in advance about the discomfort which I might experience during the procedure. But it really wortht it!

Overall the laser surgery was about ten minutes, less time than I expected. Dr. Boothe performed all steps himself and during the operation talked with me and announced what he will do next so at no point I will be surprised.

I am pleased with the great results. I use my “new eyes” for more than 10 months. My eyesight is stabile and I can see very clearly. I do not regret the money which I spent for my vision. I can read very small print, see numbers of houses when driving & enjoy beautiful sunsets…

Especially I want to thank Dr. Boothe. He does perform high quality surgeries, as promised. And his staff was carefully chosen. I will come to his center every time I need an ophthalmologist.

I visited the Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center first in the end of December. After the first consultation I was pleased with my conversation with Dr. William Boothe and I was very satisfied with the overall service. It seemed that he knows what he is doing and he made observations that made sense to me.

Dr. Boothe said that IntraLastik surgery was the most suitable for my eye condition but I still hesitated. I came home and told my wife what his recommendations were. After consideration of all pros and cons I decided to call to center and schedule a date for my laser eye surgery.

On the first consultation with Dr. William Boothe they measured and found I had -3 in both eyes but after the IntraLastik procedure I have 1.0 vision! I experienced the difference between my vision before and after surgery, it is noticeable – I was driving on the third day after surgery and was able to notice many details along the way. In the first month after Lasik I felt dryness in my eyes, that was my only side effect after surgery. Particularly I noticed it when I was at work due to heavy load of working on a PC. I used the eyedrops he prescribed and the dryness went away after a few weeks.

My life can now be divided to two parts – uncomfortable life before surgery and my ”superman” life after surgery. Thanks to all the people who took part in my treatment.

My surgery went very well!

All my life I wanted to do laser eye surgery but I was a little scared. Two years ago my friend had an eye correction at the Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center. When she started to see clearly she was very happy. Since then I began thinking about my laser eye surgery. I read many success stories of different kinds of laser surgeries on their websitebut I hesitated because I did not know for how long the surgery will improve my vision. So far my friend has a good vision without any problems.

One evening I called my friend and asked her to go with me to the center. Next morning she called her counselor at the center and made an appointment with Dr. Boothe. When we arrived to Boothe’s Center I was a little excited. My friend took me to Boothe’s room.

I told Dr. Boothe that I wore glasses all of my life and the lately used contact lenses but each year I must switch my contact lenses because my sight changes and it cost a lot overall, with cleaning supplies etc. Dr. Boothe listened to me with attentive attitude and assured me that I can correct my vision without any complications. He asked me to go with his assistant to other rooms where they had examination devices to determine the exact condition of my eyes. It was absolutely painless and quick. His nurse was with me all the time and took me from one exam room to the other. In every room I met very pleasant nurses. They explained what I need to do and which equipment will be used. When the results were ready I waited for Dr. Boothe to was able to speak to me again. He very thoroughly learned my eye exam results and then looked at me and said that I was suitable for IntraLasik surgery. He explained the whole process which will be followed in my surgical procedure. He told me about the advantages of laser eye correction and its disadvantages. I asked how much it will cost and his assistant offered a price and financing plan that suited my expectations. I answered that I will consider and if I agree I will make a call to center. Dr. Boothe said that he will be glad to see me again.

One week later I called the center and the nurse appointed a day for IntraLastik vision correction surgery. My friend told me in detail about the procedure and reassured me that I could not find such a professional surgeon anywhere else in the U.S. When I came to the center I exactly knew what to expect.

Before surgery the nurse gave me papers which I had to sign. I waited about half an hour when the nurse came back and took me to a special room where I was prepared for surgery. I wore the sterile clothing and took a tranquilizing pill. When I was right the nurse took me to operating room. The nurse had me lay down on the operating table so she can put eye drops in my eyes. After about 3 minutes,Dr. Boothe began to operate my right eye. The laser surgery was absolutely painless. It only felt uncomfortable  when Dr. Boothe used the eye dilator. The surgery on my right eye only took three minutes. When he worked on my left eye, it was so quick that I did not feel anything.  After the surgery, I feel a little dizzy. The nurses took me to the postoperative room and helped me remove the clothing and asked me to rest before Dr. Boothe exams my eyes. I laid down and fell asleep for a couple of hours until the nurse woke me up. To exam my eyes, Dr. Boothe asked me to read the letters on the letter board. I was able to read 10 lines and it was great! The nurse gave me eye drops and a prescription and I was allowed to back home.

Before the surgery, I was afraid that there will be postoperative complications, but when I returned home I felt well! My friend visited me and helped me put eye drops in my eyes.

During the next day, I went back to Dr. Boothe so he can exam and test my eyes again. I was delighted when Dr. Boothe said I have  20/20 vision. The only regret I have is  that I waited so long to get this done!

If you are thinking of doing a laser eye surgery, I would recommend that you go to Dr. William Boothe to have it done. He is worthy of the high praise I read on this website.

My husband wore glasses all of his life. He used to be short-sighted and for years he hesitated whether he should undergo a laser eye surgery. Despite the fact that wearing glasses is limiting, he became very used to wearing glasses and was not troubled by them as much as I was.

After the first consultation with Dr. William Boothe my husband was pretty much sold on the idea. Dr. Boothe managed to dissolve his doubts. He explained that some complications can occur as a result of laser eye surgery, however they can be minimized by using the most advanced technologies. Also we had the opportunity to talk with patients who did Lasik at Boothe Laser Center and were waiting for a follow-up. Everyone was very satisfied not only with the results of laser surgery but also with the respectful staff.

My husband was operated personally by Dr. Boothe. He is grateful to everyone in the center who helped to improve his vision. Now my husband is getting accustomed to living without glasses….
